Transcript of Smartboard
(IWBs) SMART Board, ActivBoard, eBeam, Mimio, and Webster SMARTBoard is a brand, actually. replacements for traditional whiteboards or flipcharts. They provide ways to show students any thing which can be presented on a computer's desktop interactive whiteboards allow teachers to record their instruction and post the material for review by students at a later time. What kind of activities can be done? display information (interactive text, images, sound and video files) a large interactive display that connects to a computer and projector. captures notes written on the white-board like surface carries out polls and quizzes Positive Impacts on Education the use of multimedia definitely makes lessons more interesting and helps Ss to concentrate more in their classes IWB allows students to see everything clearly and vividly right in front of them, making it easier for students to receive information and participate in class. it enhances student participation in an IWB-based classroom as opposed to paper-based classroom and affords teachers better insights into student learning Ss can focus even more on developing analytical skills to extract meaning for contextual relationships of data, thus, it raises students’ ability to understand the implications of given information it caters to various learning styles Drawbacks “There is insufficient evidence to identify the actual impact of such technologies upon learning either in terms of classroom interaction or upon attainment and achievement” (Hodge & Anderson, 2007, p. 4) Cognitive overload is the result of too much visual and audio information processing. Students can feel overwhelmed by the amount of information they need to acquire in a short period of time. it can make students understand the contents easier but it also encourages students to be lazy in doing their own research and deprives students of their imagination since everything is presented to them and they don’t need to do any thinking. Even though IWB has the ability to provide teachers with quick and greater access to information, teachers need substantial extra planning and preparation time built into their lesson planning. A projector projects the computer’s desktop onto the IWB board’s surface, where users control the computer using a pen, finger or other device. thanks for listening
