Consumers purchased more than $250 billion worth of goods and services online that same year (Bowles, 2010) Communications EDUCATION In 2007, a Sloan Consortium report showed that out of all the bricks and mortar universities in the United States, 60% are now also offering online education- 44% offering Master’s Degree programs (Bowles, 2010) Life As We Know It Adam Ostrow highlights several aspects of society's shift to a cyber existence, even after life (Ostrow, After Your Final Status Update) IN CONCLUSION... With the social web so profoundly impacting the way in which we as humans conduct ourselves with one another and/or businesses, it is impossible to ignore the likelihood of the onset of a society that is cyber-based with little to no real human interaction How far fetched might his ideas about digital life after physical life actually be? After your final status update... We are now living in a time in which the fabric of society is made up of webbing. Social webbing. The Social Web has greatly affected our lifestyle & viewpoints: The way we conduct business The way we interact and exchange information The way we view life in general Social Web References When considering the number of impressions & eyes Facebook has access to each month, it is difficult to imagine business succeeding without using the social web site
