Main Characters Odysseus Odysseus is the king of Ithaca, who is very clever and is intelligent. In the Cyclops' island, he blinds a Cyclops, which enrages Poseidon. Poseidon sends a storm, and this leads Odysseus to Ogygia and Phaeacia. Perseus Perseus was the son of Zeus and Danaë. . Perseus was the Greek hero who killed the Gorgon Medusa, and claimed Andromeda, having rescued her from a sea monster sent by Poseidon. other characters Andromeda Andromeda is the princess of Aethiopia. She was given to a sea monster because her mother Queen Cassiopeia boasted that she is much more beautiful that the Nereid. Poseidon was angry, and sent a sea monster. When she was about to get swallowed by the sea monster she was saved by Perseus. Perseus slays the monster, and claimed her. Medusa Medusa is monster that Perseus slays. She was once a beautiful woman. However she became a hideous monster. She is famous for her ability to change a person in to stone by having eye contact. Compare and Contrast :
The Main Characters of The Odyssey and the Pausanias Athena She is a goddess of wisdom and battle. She changes Medusa into a Monster, and gives Perseus magical gifts. Cyclops Cyclops are one eyed giants, that Odysseus encounter in the Island of the Cyclops. The one Odysseus kills in particular, is named Polyphemus. Scylla Scylla is a monster that tries to kill Odysseus. She lives on a high cliff and eats nearby sailors that comes through her realm. She lets her heads go down and pluck sailors Charybdis Charybdis is usually referred as a whirl pool that is on the sea. However, Charybdis is actually a monster that lives under the ocean, breathing in, and out, which makes the whirlpool. Laestrygonians Laestrigonians are giants that Odysseus meets. They are friendly at first, but they enrages when they see that some of the sailors are trying to steal food. They try kill all of them, and Odysseus barely escapes. Comparison - both characters are descendants of gods

- both characters are liked by gods. Perseus was the son of Zeus. How this influences the story is that Perseus got powers and characteristics from Zeus. - the reason they kill monsters Perseus being a demigod, had superhuman strength and agility/reflexes, usually displayed in battle. We can see this in the fight of Medusa, and the sea monster. Odyseuss killed many warriors in the Trojan war. He had great intelligence that helped him defeat many monsters. Perseus fights Medusa and the Sea monster. Perseus kills Medusa whille she is asleep, looking at her by a shield's reflection. Odysseus fights many monsters, such as the Cyclops, Scylla, Charibdis, Laestrigonians et cetera. Perseus was liked by Athena, and Hermes in particular. Odysseus is liked by Athena. He is given safe passage to Ithaca because Athena helps him out alot in on the journey back to his home. It took 10 years for Odysseus to come back from Troy, and 20 years counting the the years in the war. It is estimated that it took Perseus only 1-5 years to kill Medusa and get back. Odysseus enrages Poseidon resulting in him getting storms whenever he tried to get back home. He had to suffer with many monsters and finally he got back. Perseus' mother is liked by Polydectes, the king of the country they were saved in. So, Polydectes sends Perseus away, and tries to get his mother. Perseus, knowing that he is running out of time, kills Medusa, and comes back. The reason Perseus kills the sea monster and Meudsa is because of the command that Polydectes gives to him. The reason Odysseus kills monster is because killing the monsters is necessay in order to get back to his home, Ithaca
