The Journal of the ASEAN Federation of Endocrine Societies MILESTONES Indonesian Society of Endocrinology The Journal of the ASEAN Federation of Endocrine Societies (JAFES) is an open-access, peer-reviewed, English language medical and health journal that is published two times a year by the ASEAN Federation of Endocrine Societies The JAFES is unique among other journals as it represents the scientific output of endocrinologists and practitioners in the Southeast Asian region. Its audience is wider than a local society journal and its operations are supported by the association of seven country endocrine societies. Endocrine Society of Thailand Vietnam Association of Diabetes and Endocrinology Establishment of an International Editorial Board composed of respected endocrinologists and members of the academe/research community and supported by editorial advisers. Creation of an editorial team composed of the Set up of an editorial office as the headquarters for operations. Establishment and implementation of editorial guidelines and peer review system in keeping with international publication and ethical standards. of Singapore In an effort to strengthen the Editorial team and be updated with regards the latest trends in medical journal publishing, Dr. Elizabeth Paz-Pacheco (JAFES Editor-in-Chief), Dr. Cecilia Jimeno (Vice Editor-in-Chief) and Dr. Amado Tandoc III (Editorial Assistant) participated in the Asia Pacific Association of Medical Editors Convention: New Horizons in Scientific Writing and Publishing Convention in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia from August 31 to September 3, 2012. Through the APAME Convention, there was an opportunity to discuss with BioMed Central and other journal editors/publishers on how to improve journal management and increase visibility. JAFES is now taking necessary steps to shift JAFES to electronic/online open-access publishing. The JAFES now focuses its efforts on the following: Maintaining the high quality of articles through enhancement of its editorial policies and regulations, upholding high standards for scientific writing and ethics, expansion of its international peer reviewer pool, and ensuring a streamlined approach for managing manuscripts received from authors. Improvement of the current JAFES website
www.asean-endocrinejournal.org to increase the visibility and searchability of the articles. Shifting from print to online,open-access publication via services of providers such as BioMed Central or Editorial Manager to facilitate journal peer review, article processing and tracking, indexing and visibility. Utilization of recommended tools for effective journal management, checking plagiarism and adherence to publication ethics. Establishment and implementation of an effective mechanism for inviting, selecting and maintaining good peer reviewers. Active participation in APAME and WHO, networking and coordination with country medical journal editor associations for technical assistance and updates, and continual improvement of its operations. Continue working towards indexing and inclusion in PubMed, Web of Science, ISI and WHO Western Pacific Region Index Medicus Securing support from AFES countries and pharmaceutical companies for operations and sustainability Thank you very much for your continuous support to JAFES!
