Transcript of Renewable Energy in China

Did you know?
Did you know that China has already more than 40 million rooftop solar collectors and has recently become the world's leader in renewable energy,
Chinese City Rizhao
Rizhao is a Chinese city located in Shandong Province. It sits on the coastal plain against the mountains. More than 1 million gleaming solar collectors are on rooftops of this city of 2.8 million residents. 99% of all households receive hot water and space heating from renewable energy. In 2008, Rizhao became carbon neutral, one of the first four cities in the world to achieve this milestone.

Per Capita
World's Leader in Energy
In the past few years, China has become the world's leader in clean energy. In 2009, China passed Denmark, Germany, and Spain to become the world's largest producer of wind turbines. In 2010, China produced about two-thirds of the world's photovoltaic modules as well as about 80 percent of solar water heaters.
Clean Energy
Moving to clean energy is a wonderful economic opportunity for this developing country. Already, more than a million Chinese workers are employed in a clean energy sector. With three of the five largest solar producers in the world. China now provides about 40 percent of the solar panels installed in California, the United States largest market. A Chinese company using Chinese turbines is building the largest wind farm currently under construction in the U.S.
China's advantages
Rizhao has cut its per capita carbon emissions by half. Generous subsides for property owners, low-cost loans, and regulations that require renewable energy for new construction have made mass markets for equipment that brings cost down, cleans the air, saves money, and creates a lot of jobs.
Solar Water Heater
U.S. Solar Water Heater Currently costs about $230.
In Rizhao, its about 1/10
of the cost in United States
Chinese Benefits
China also benefits from low labor and raw material costs. Already, Chinese companies produce the lowest priced solar panels in the world. Polysilicon, the main ingredient in solar photovoltaic, costs about $400 per kg. in 2009. China can now produce it for $45 per kg, and expects to drive prices down even further in the coming years.
Around 250 million people have moved from the country to the city of Rizhao since 1990, it is expected to become urbanized in the next couple of decades. Providing huge marketing for housing, electricity, and technology.
What is environmental science?
We Live on a
Marvelous Planet.
Environmental science is the systematic study of our environment and our proper place in it. A relatively new field, environmental science is highly interdisciplinary, integrating natural sciences, social sciences, and humanities in a broad, holistic study of the world around us.
There are dangers and difficulties here, we live on a unique planet in this universe. Our temperatures are mild, we have clean air, fresh water, and fertile soil. Maybe the most amazing feature on planet Earth is the rich diversity of life that exists here. We should ask ourselves, what is our place in nature? What should we do to protect our habitat.
We face many serious environmental problems.
It's important for you to be aware of current environmental conditions. With more than 7.1 billion humans currently, we're adding about 80 million more to the world every year. THAT'S INSANE!
WE SHOULD
Stop cutting down forests.
Stop littering
Stop polluting
AND SHARE THE WEALTH!
Conclusion
China, has already 40 million rooftops solar collectors, which makes them the worlds leader in renewable energy. China's green technology progress is great news for our global environment.
