How does color affect
Blue can represent so many different things...
is the color of the sky and sea so it can associated with depth and stability
can be considered beneficial to the mind and body and can produce a calming affect
blue is the color used to promote products and services of cleanliness(water purification filter)
Orange can be associated with joy, sunshine, and the tropics.
Green can symbolize growth, harmony, freshness, and fertility.
Purple is a secondary color made from the colors blue and red.
What does that color say?
Different shades of blue:
Light Blue: health, healing, tranquility, understanding, and softness
Dark Blue: knowledge, power, integrity, and seriousness
Blue should be NOT be used if trying to promote food and cooking, because it suppresses appetite.
It can represent enthusiasm, fascination, happiness, creativity, determination, attraction, success, encouragement, and stimulation.
Orange is considered a warm color so it can give the sensation of heat.
Different shades of orange....
Dark Orange: deceit and distrust
Red-Orange: desire, pleasure, domination, aggression, and thirst for action.
Green is used to indicate safety and free passage in road traffic.
Dark Green: ambition, greed, jealousy, money, and the financial world.
Yellow-green: sickness, cowardice, and discord.
Purple is most associated with royalty.
Purple can symbolize power, nobility, luxury, and ambition.
Purple can also be associated with wisdom, dignity, independence, creativity, mystery, and magic.
Light Purple: it evokes romantic and nostalgic feelings.
Dark Purple: it evokes gloom and sad feelings. It can also cause frustration.
Yellow can be associated with joy, happiness, intellect, and energy.
Yellow has a warming effect, arouses, cheerfulness, stimulates mental activity, and generates muscle energy.
Yellow is very effective for attracting attention.
Yellow is an unstable and spontaneous color so it should not be used to suggest stability or safety.
Red is associated with energy, war, danger, strength, power, determination, passion, desire, and love.
Red is one of the most emotionally intense colors. It enhances human metabolism, increases respiration rate, and raises blood pressure.
Red is widely used to indicate danger
ex. high voltage signs, traffic lights
Light Red: joy, sexuality, passion, sensitivity, love
Dark Red: vigor, willpower, rage, anger, leadership, courage, longing, malice, and wrath
White is associated with light, goodness, innocence, purity, and virginity. It is considered to be the color of perfection.
White usually has a positive connotation. White can represent a successful beginning.
White is also associated with coolness and cleanliness. It can be used to suggest simplicity in high-tech products.
Black is associated with power, elegance, formality, death, evil, and mystery
Black is a mysterious color associated with fear and the unknown. It usually has a negative connotation.
Black is a very formal, elegant, and prestigious color.
ex. Black tie
Black contrasts with bright colors very well so it is often used as a background in art galleries.
Pink represents compassion, nurturing and love. It relates to understanding and unconditional love.
Pink is a combination of red and white. It has the passion of red that is softened by the purity, openness and completeness of white.
Pink is considered feminine, romantic, affectionate, and intimate.
Pink is used as a sign of hope. It calms and reassures our emotional energies.
Some negative affects of pink is that it can be seen as over-emotional and over-cautious. It can show neediness or unrealistic expectations.
Grey is an unemotional color that is detached, neutral, impartial, and indecisive.
Grey is the color of compromise because it is neither black nor white. The closer to black it gets, it becomes more dramatic and mysterious. The closer to white, it becomes more illuminating and lively.
Grey can be associated with being subdued, quiet, and reserved.
Too much grey can create sadness, depression, loneliness, and isolation.
Brown is a serious, down-to-earth color that can signify stability, structure, and support.
Brown relates to support and protection of a family unit and duty and responsibility.
Brown is associated with material security and accumulation of material possessions.
Brown can also be seen as dull, boring or materialistic.
Gold represents wealth, success, and status achievement.
It can be associated with abundance and prosperity, and luxury and quality. Gold adds richness and warmth and it can illuminate and enhance everything it is associated with.
Too much gold can be considered egotistical, self-righteous and opportunistic in ones quest for greater power.
Starbucks using green in their logo to brand
their company as youthful and Earth-friendly.
McDonalds uses the big yellow arches to
express happiness and friendliness.

pink because it shows a
fear of breast cancer but
hope for the future. The pink
is used as a symbol of
goodwill towards woman.
UPS uses the color brown to show dependability and reliability. It shows a trust that consumers can trust UPS to get their packages to their destination safely.
THE TODAY SHOW
The 'Today' show currently changed their whole set and the color they used was ORANGE! Why orange? The idea was to turn 'Today' into a stronger cup of coffee and to jolt America's eyes open a little faster. The bright orange sunset in the background suggest relaxing in your living room and reflecting on your day.
