"Increasing brand awareness"
I believe that the combination between my main product and my ancillary texts works well because they both correlate together. The purpose of all three products is because firstly it increases brand awareness and it is advertising the documentary and making people aware, the ancillary being a magazine double page spread and poster are both advertising the documentary to a broader audience meaning it has to correlate straight back to the documentary so that people know what it is about and it makes people want to watch it.
Audience Pleasures
My documentary doesn’t have any of the typical audience pleasure because it is a topic that is unfamiliar to the audience, making it untypical to the audience. To overcome this, my three pieces have a warm mode of address which means it appeals to all audiences. For both the poster and double page spread the theme of them is dark colours, this was for continuity purposes and people can relate them both back to each other.
Continuity
For all three pieces to work together you must have continuity throughout them, this is done by using the name of the documentary throughout and using similar colours. In mine I used the name “Minds Eye” throughout and put it in all three pieces, which obviously links them all.
Poster
For the poster I had an image of a man with his eyes shut, this connotes the fact its about blind people and anchors the title “Minds Eye” because it looks like he is looking into his mind. It also connotes consistency and creates a brand image.
How Effective is the combination of your main product and ancillary text?
As both the ancillaries are advertisement for the documentary they have to link back to the documentary. That is why in the double page spread I wrote about the documentary and said how good it is as this will give people more reason to watch it.
