All About Peacocks
Transcript of All About Peacocks
Peacocks are known for being one of the most beautiful creatures in the whole world. They have been admired and kept as pets for thousands of years. The male peacock has multiple colors like bright blue and green. The females are actually called peahens, but male and female together are called peafowl.
Baby peafowl are called peachicks. The male peacock does a dance to attract the female peacocks attention. Female peacocks only pay attention to the males mating call unless they are ready for mating.
The male spreads out his beautiful feathers and flutters them to catch the female's eye. In ancient Greek Mythology, it is said that Hera, one of the many Greek goddesses, put the eyes of Argus(Hera’s watchman) of one of her favorite bird’s feathers.
Also in Greek Mythology, peacocks were most favored by the Goddess Juno. Peacocks eat insects, plants and small creatures. Also they eat cracked corn, green grass and even grubs! The Indian or blue fowl, the green peafowl of Burma and IndoChina, and the Congo peacock found in the Congo Basin in Africa are three types are peafowls. Unfortunately, the female peacocks aren’t as beautiful. Their feathers are brown and not colorful. http://therealestatecoconut.com/files/2008/09/peacock.jpg http://www.animalpicturesarchive.com/animal/a2/female_peacock-Peahen-by_Denise_McQuillen.jpg http://images.nationalgeographic.com/wpf/medialive/photos/000/006/cache/peacock_657_600x450.jpg http://farm1.static.flickr.com/147/345143291_6f14bed31c.jpg http://images.elfwood.com/art/e/v/everose/ewhera.jpg http://www.colblindor.com/wp-content/images/peacock-eye.JPG Arugus's Eye http://www.freenaturephotos.com/photos/animal-photos/pages/peacock-3.html http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2150/2467230961_b89ba09a6c.jpg http://tinyurl.com/68wknvg Peacocks are one of the most unique animals in the world.
