Joseph II was a Holy Roman emperor 1765–1790, corregent of Austria with his mother, Maria Theresa (1765–1780), and king of Bohemia and Hungary (1780–1790).The Habsburg Emperor Joseph II of the Holy Roman Empire was an enlightened absolutist, and imposed many liberal reforms on Austria during his reign.He instituted a number of political, religious, and civil reforms.Joseph was a proponent of enlightened absolutism; however, his commitment to modernizing reforms subsequently engendered significant opposition, which eventually culminated in an ultimate failure to fully implement his programmers. He has been ranked, with Catherine II of Russia and Frederick II of Prussia, as one of the three great Enlightenment monarchs
Joseph II ( Joseph Benedict Augustus Johann Anton Michael Adam) was born on March 13, 1741 in Vienna, Austria. He was the eldest son of Francis I, Holy Roman Emperor, and Maria Theresa, ruler of the Habsburg empire. When his mother died in 1870, he was left to dominate the empire. He died on February 20, 1790 in Vienna, Austria.

Joseph II rose to power when his mother and father died. His father was emperor of the Holy Roman Empire before him his mom was the ruler previous before him. Since, he was the eldest, he was the one that got the rule of them. He had to do most of what he wanted after his mother died because he wanted to do things that she refused. For example, he wanted to create a religion tolerance and his mother didn't want to.
