-Achieved massive wealth through stocks and stockbroker companies
-Owner/Founder of Stratton Oakmont - functioned as a boiler room
-High point in early 90s=>$50 millions
-Crashed Yacht and Car while high...
-Flew his own helicopter while high...
"Belfort says at the height of his drug problem, he was taking 22 different medications: 20 quaaludes a day, balanced out by cocaine, the morphine, xanax, valium, etc. You name it, he abused it. I said to him, "Even if half of this is true (skeptical as always) how are you alive?" He says he was just really good about balancing it all out." (Welles, cncb)
-Using Prostitutes was a normal part of life
-He made his money... the dirty way.
"The dirty way" = He drove up stock prices with his friends and cashed out when he had enough, stocks would plummet after that.
"Boiler room" = an outbound call centre selling questionable investments by telephone
-Once organized a "Midget throwing competition" to entertain brokers
Securities fraud - inducing investors to make purchase or sale decisions on the basis of false information, frequently resulting in losses, in violation of securities laws
Money Laundering - concealing the source of large amounts of money that have been gained through illegitimate means
-Sentenced to four years in federal prison and one hundred and ten million dollars to reimburse to victims
-The Wolf of Wall Street is now being made into a major motion picture.
