Transcript of Occupational Therapy Intervention Process Model (OTIPM)

About the OTIPM
-Anne Fisher (2009)
-A model to guide professional reasoning in a manner that ensures that we stress a client-centered, top-down, and occupation-based approach to assessment and intervention.
-Honoring and respecting the client's perspective and goals, and not taking away the client's dreams
-Client constellation

Top-down vs. Bottom-up approach
Bottom-up
-Evaluate body functions
-Make assumptions related to occupational performance

Top-down
-Start broad and then observe occupational performance problems
-Quality
-Interpret the cause

Building Therapeutic Rapport
-Develop Occupational Profile
-What is meaningful to the client
-Roles, routines, habits, motivations, interests etc.
-Environment
Preparation
-Modalities
Rote Practice/Exercise
-HEPs and Thera-band
Simulated Occupation
-placing cones on shelf, playdoh, contrived
Restorative Occupation
-remediation of underlying impairments, grading, body function
Acquisitional
-development or maintenance of occupational skill, client constellation
Adaptive Occupation
-perform like tasks in a different manner (adaptive device)
So what??
Occupations are both meaningful and purposeful to the person who engages in it!
Chosen by client
Naturalistic and contextual
Simulation is acceptable

Thank You!
