There are only six types of simple machines. Each can be used in many different ways.
A lever is a bar that rests on a support called a
fulcrum
which lifts or moves loads.
A pulley is a simple machine that uses grooved wheels and a rope to raise, lower or move a load.
A screw is an
inclined plane wrapped around a rod
which holds things together or lifts materials.
An inclined plane is a
slanting surface
connecting a lower level to a higher level.
A wedge is an object that
cuts
material apart. It is made up of two inclined planes.
A wheel with an axle (or
rod through its center
) lifts or moves loads.

What is energy?
It's the ability to do work.
What is force?
It's a push or a pull.
What is work?
It's applying a force to an object to
make it move
.
make work easier for us!
There isn't less work done! Simple machines change the
direction of the force
, so the work is easier for you!
Six Types of Simple Machines:

lever
pulley
wedge
screw
wheel and axle
Remember...
MASS is how much matter there is in an object.
The more mass...the more work it takes to move an object!
Which is easier to move?
