Saving the San Joaquin Kit Fox Pesticides Human Cities Climate Change The problem: The San Joaquin kit fox is endangered!!! Why? Because of pesticides, human cities and hazards, and climate changes!!! Humans spray pesticides to keep bugs and rodents away. This kills the SJ kit fox's food! HE WILL STARVE! If the fox can find food, its most likely poisened and will kill it if it eats it. Workers build buildings and farms. These buildings are being built in the SJ kit fox's habitat and is forcing the kit fox to leave. Because of this it is now harder for the kit fox to find food and a home. Kit Fox's habitat
gets less rainfall. The Kit Fox's prey becomes dehydrated. Kit Fox dies from deyidration since it gets it's water from it's prey. Traditional Pesticides aren't the Answer! There are many alternatives! Insecticide Alternatives Rodenticide Alternatives Cultivation methods, biological pest controllers, and soil steaming Traps and electronic pest repellent machines Cultivation Methods: Hot water use, crop rotation, and trap crops Biological Pest Controllers: Natural Parasites and predators to bugs or rodents you want to get rid of. Traps: Kills rodents but doesn't kill the kit fox Electronic Pest Repellent Machines: Ultrasonic sound rodent repellers, Magnet field repellers. Find out more about the kit fox at
http://johnnyjinkle.glogster.com/san-joaquin-kit-fox/ Kit fox in unnatural envitroment HOW CAN WE FIX THESE PROBLEMS? Stop the Destruction! In order to save it, it is essential to ask the US National Park Association to make a national park near the San Joaquin Valley that can let the San Joaquin kit fox thrive. One of the main goals of national parks are to save endangered species. National Parks are protected from hunters and no one can build on the land besides the government. It is extremely important to protect the kit fox’s habitat because the kit fox is an “umbrella species,” meaning it lives in many types of areas with many other species. This means many other animals would benefit from it if the kit fox’s habitat was preserved. Provide Water! In order to help the kit fox adapt to this climate change, citizens of California should send a letter to the governor asking for the San Joaquin reservoirs open back up again. These reservoirs should be open to wildlife, so the kit fox can drink out of it if necessary. Bible Verse Your righteousness is like the highest mountains, your justice like the great deep. You, LORD, preserve both people and animals.

-Psalm 36:3

Relevance: This verse is relevant to this project because it says that the Lord preserves animals, so we should to. Also, the verse says the Lord has lots of justice, so we should demand justice like the Lord and protect these animals. Credits Summary: how YOU can help Summary: The Problems The San Joaquin Valley - Home to the San Joaquin Kit Fox The San Joaquin kit fox is a small fox that lives in the San Joaquin Valley in California. It has large ears and long legs. It stands 9 to 12 inches tall and is about 20 inches long (32 inches if you count the tail). Kit foxes are found naturally in grasslands filled with cactus, rodents, and saltbush (for food), but are often forced into urban areas. The kit fox lives in small dens in the grasslands of the San Joaquin Valley, which provide protection from predators. The Grassland Habitat Grasslands are large areas of flat land with grass and wild-flowers. Grasslands have limited trees. Animals in grasslands are adapted to dry conditions, including the kit fox. Kit foxes live in temperate grasslands, which have less rainfall then tropical grasslands. Grasslands have fertile soil, making them desirable for farmers. And as you will see, Farmers have caused several problems for the kit fox. Grasslands are found in the interior of North America and most continents, but also in the center of California. Each year millions of animals die due to pesticides, loss of habitat, and new climates. Some very important reasons why the kit fox is endangered, is because pesticides, habitat desruction, and climate changes. We can take them off this endangered list if we start using alternatives to pesticides and rodenticides. It will be safer for the animals and your kids when they play on the lawn. Also probably the most significant factor to them being threatened is cities and fences that are being built in their homes and is forcing them to move out and later die because they are not used to the new area where they are forced to live. If the kit fox decides to try and leave the cities that grow up around it, it is forced to go to areas with less rainfall, where there is less prey to eat. The kit fox is endangered and if we don’t do something to save it, it will go extinct. Conclusion magnetic Hot water Trap Soil steamer Ultrasonic Pest Repellent Why animals are important for the enviroment Animals are important for our enviroment because
they take care of the enviroment. Animals recycle
nuetrients through the enviroment. Some animals
eat dead animals and speed up their decomposition.
One animal may be important for another animal in
the ecosystem for food. Animals eat dead animals to clean up enviroment. The kit fox limits rodent populations
(which spread disease) and insect populations
(which destroy crops).
