AND YOUNG PEOPLE

TYPES OF ABUSE
You have been divided in to your
home groups
and allocated a number. All of the number 1s will go to table 1, number 2s to table 2 and number 3s to table 3.

Read and discuss the scenario on your table (some tables may have more than one scenario) and complete the
Types of Abuse
map.

As an
expert
on the types of abuse you will then return to your
home groups
and each
expert
will feedback to their group about their scenario.

SCENARIO
You are working as a support assistant in a reception class and have responsibility for supporting a small group of four children. You have noticed some changes in the behaviour and appearance of one of the children in your care. You have to decide whether your observations are cause for concern and, if so, what will happen.

The types of Abuse:
Physical, Emotional, Intellectual, Sexual, Neglect and Bullying

The indicators of Abuse:

Physical
eg. bruising, soreness, poor personal hygiene;
Emotional
eg. withdrawal, aggression, low self-esteem, developmental delay

In 2011 the GTC had 336 cases of unprofessional conduct
43 of these cases were about Facebook, Twitter, chat rooms and e-mails being used to befriend students
18 of these members of staff were struck off
14 of these members of staff were suspended
