Transcript of Aural Imagery
What is Aural Imagery?
It involves the repetition of the same vowel sounds within stressed syllables of a series of words to create a particular effect.
Example: The blows glided down the coast
Blackened with the birds took a last look
At his thrashing hair and whale-blue eyes;
The trodden town rang its cobbles for luck
It's the repetition of the same constant sounds in a series of words in which vowels are different. Consonance may occur in the middle or at the end of a series of words. From the previous example, look and luck are examples of consonance.
It involves the repetition of the same constant sound at the beginning of each word over several words together.
Example: The fair breeze blew, the white foam flew, and furrow followed free
This occurs when the sound of the word reflects its meaning. For example: Slithering and Pluck.
Example in poem: The door went creak
In the still of the night
The floor went bump
Oh what a fright
All of a sudden, we heard a chime The grandfather clock was keeping good time
Which poem goes with which definition?
Deep into that darkness,
long i stood there wondering,
fearing, doubting, dreaming dreams no
mortal ever dared to dream before
So might I, be standing on this pleasant lea ,
Have glimpses that would make me less forlorn;
Have sight of Proteus rising from the sea;
Or hear old Triton blow on his weathered horn
We turned down a hallway and heard a loud crash
It seems that someone had dropped all the trash
So many sounds when the lights go out
It's enough to make you scream and shout
And all is seared with trade; bleared
smeared with toil; And wears man's smudges
and shares man's smell: the soil
