What is a Serial Killer?
Conclusion.
Now that we learned about serial killers, let's recap.
Serial Killers
Motives.
What is a serial killer?
According to the Federal Bureau of Investigation, a serial killing is defined as "The unlawful killing of two or more victims by the same offender(s), in separate events." No particular race, gender, nor method of murder.
People often accuse this with "Mass Murder" which is defined as "two or more murders committed by an offender or offenders, without a cooling-off period"
Categories of serial killers
Organized
- "usually highly intelligent and know how to carefully and cleverly conceal their murders".
Typically in a hospital setting, people usually pass away here and it would assumed to be a natural death.
- "They are usually highly intelligent and well organized to the point of being meticulous".
Medical
Disorganized
Typically plan out the murderings in advance, and take precautions in not leaving any traces.
- "Disorganized killers usually have low IQ’s and are extremely antisocial". Don't try covering up their tracks and usually strike at random with no plan.
Motives vary depending on who does the killing and why.
Anger - rage or hostility towards a certain subgroup of the population or with society as a whole.

Power/thrill - motivation in which the offender feels empowered and/or excited when he kills his victims
Psychosis - the offender is suffering from a severe mental illness and is killing because of that illness. This may include auditory and/or visual hallucinations and paranoid, grandiose, or bizarre delusions.
Criminal Enterprise - the offender benefits in status or monetary compensation by committing murder that is drug, gang, or organized crime related.
Along with many others...
" 'Repeated psychological trauma' during the early stages of growing up can cause a child to seek relief through activities of violence such as killing small animals.”
Such trauma can include domestic volence, Moving, Neglect, Abuse, etc..
Jeffrey Dahmers - as a child, Dahmer was an outgoing child who got along well with everyone. When he and his family moved, he became anti-social and did not get along with anyone at his new school. His parents fought often, and whenever they did, he escaped to the woods to see his pile of animal carcasses. Here, he felt at peace. He was depraved of human interaction and did not fully learn as to how to act with everyone, and whether what he did was right or wrong.
Implementation of fantasies into daily life
Feeling rejected and being unable to control is as a child, Dahmers began developing violent homosexual thoughts and letting it build up.
Not only did he desire intercourse with another male, but also pleasure in killing him.
The killling can possibly be associated with the dead animals, but to also have full control over the corpse of his partner
"Serial murder receives extensive news coverage because it seems to fascinate
society even more than single murder". And because of these murders, the killer gets fame.
Single murders happen often, and there is a single motive, but with a series of killings, not many happen and society becomes interested.
Serial killer and their lives receive much interest because they are lives we cannot live, yet the thought thrills us.
Dexter
, a tv show that revolves around a blood spatter analyst, lives a secret life as a serial killer, murdering other murderers who have slipped throught the justice system.
Nicknames given to the killers by media, "Killer clown" "The Zodiac killer".
Fan pages - http://www.charlesmansonfanclub.com/
One or more killers with two or more victims with a period of time between them.
Serial kilers have many motives such as monetary gain, pleasure, status, etc..
Childhood plays a major part in their development to kill
Media glamorizes and gives fame to murderers.
Ted Bundy, your killer has you down in one of his killings, and known because media has provided coverage and bringing infamy to him
Why do we glamorize and have serial killers well known, if what they do is morally and legally wrong?
Dahmer is just an example, reasons vary.
