This was important because the U.S no longer had a way to get the equipment that they needed because the Soviets began stopping all US military supply trains and trucks. The next best thing was the Berlin Airlift, and it worked. Here are a few photos of what the planes looked like. Berlin Airlift By: Sydney McIntyre When did the Berlin Airlift take place? What was the Berlin Airlift? The Berlin Airlift was when Cargo planes delivered things that were needed during the cold war. The Berlin Airlift took place at the same time as the Cold War , because the purpose of it was to help those in the cold war by delivering what they needed to them. This was around 1948-1949.
