The Greeks were very religious, believed in gods, and that the gods were just like humans. The Greeks believed that the twelve most important gods and goddesses lived at the top of Mount Olympus. Those gods were Zeus, Hera,Poseidon,Demeter,Athena,Ares,Apollo, Artemis,Hermes, and Aphrodite.
The gods are all related in some way but it is a very confusing family tree.
Every god has a symbol or a trademark item that symbolizes what they are the god or goddess of.

Ancient Athens has impacted the modern world in 3 significant ways.
1. Philosophy:
Many well known philosophers lived and worked in Athens. Such as Socrates, Plato, and Aristotle, all of which deeply impacted our world. Socrates got people to question and improve themselves. Plato had different views on government and he claimed to know what the perfect government is. Aristotle invented a arguing method that applies to biology, psychology, and physics.
2. Democracy
Democracy was developed in Athens but was different back then. Only men in a higher class could participate in democratic activities. Women could not vote.
Athens had more citizens participating in the government than any other city-state in Greece.
3. Math:
Many mathematicians also lived in Greece such as Archimedes, and Pythagoras. Archimedes came up with the value of pi. Pythagoras invented the Pythagorean theorum which impacted geometry.
