Facts about Roald Amundsen Roald Amundsen Second Voyage Roald Amundsen became the captain of his own ship after his first voyage to Antarctica
Amundsen bought a ship, Gjoa( a fishing boat) and put supplies and equipment inside it for a long voyage
Amundsen spent 2 winters in the Arctic
Amundsen took measurements and found out that the magnetic North Pole moved a little every year
when the ship reached Mackenzie River the ship got stuck in the ice
Roald Amundsen used a dog sled to travel through Yukon and Alaska
the ship, Gjoa was freed from the ice in Spring of 1906
in October 1906, Roald Amundsen reached San Francisco which made it the first ship to travel through the Northwest Passage and the first person to discover the Northwest Passage from the Atlantic Ocean to the Pacific Ocean. Third Voyage •Roald Amundsen bought a ship called a Fram in 1908.
•Roald Amundsen wanted to be the first man to reach the North Pole but Robert Peary reached there first
•in January 1911, Roald Amundsen set a base camp called Framheim and left in October with 4 men, 4 dog sleds, and 52 dogs to reach Antarctica

The journey of Roald Amundsen until he became the first person to travel through the Northwest Passage Amundsen goal was to float over the North pole but he couldn't do it and instead he did sail through the Northeast Passage over Russia
on May 1926, Roald Amundsen was first to fly over the North Pole with an airship and also proved that there was no land at the North Pole Amundsen and the Norwegian Flag at the South Pole used the Gjoa, a 47- fishing boat for his second voyage to travel thorough the Northwest Passage
used the Fram for his third voyage
the Fram was built, so that ice would push it upwards and that the ice wouldn't crush it
Roald Amundsen had his own ship built for his voyage through the Northeast Passage. This ship was called Maud.
Amundsen used a dirigible(airship) to fly over the North Pole. The airship was filled with gas lighter than air. The name of the airship was Norge.
Amundsen also used dogsleds on explorations. Sleds were mostly about 3 meters long and 30cm wide. Sleds were made with wood The Gjoa
