What is wind energy?

How did something so evolutionary come to Canada?
In the 1600s
The French brought with them from Europe the idea of wind turbines to the new world
Early communities that were established were known to have had a wind mill
These were only used to benefit the economy at the time
It's created through paths of moving air
These air paths move large propeller blades
Named wind turbines
That wind energy is among one of the first methods of energy used to substitute the use of manual labor.
Used as early as 7th century A.D. for the purpose of grinding grain
Used to pump water by the Middle Ages
The French that colonized in the areas around the St. Lawrence Seaway
Separated the land into different sections known as "Seigneuries"

Dependency on the wind
Birds are constantly in danger
Lightning causes significant damage
Amounts of power generated is limited
People are Dependent on the Wind
Wind and weather patterns are constantly changing
Very difficult to be solely dependent on wind energy alone
Have at least some sort of contingency plan
Did You Know
That China is the most dependent country in the world on wind as a source of energy. Their wind farms produce a whopping 67.7 gigawatts, with that number continuing to grow.
Why are Birds in a Heap of Trouble?
The high speeds that the propellers on the turbines spin are to fast for birds to safely pass by unharmed
This has resulted in tons of bird deaths all over the world
Did you know
According to the Ornithological Society of Madrid they have estimated that 18,000 wind turbines kill on average 6 million to 18 million birds annually in Spain alone!
The most severe damage that can occur to a wind turbine is a lightning strike
It can devastate the generator in the top of the tower
While also Frying all the controls, battery power and wiring in the meantime

Site Selection: Always an Issue
Wind turbines are most efficiently placed facing the wind, as opposed to having the tower face the wind
This eliminates the sound that it is known to generate

More Issues Involved With Site Selection
The site has to have a fairly consistent wind speed of at least 13 kilometers per hour
Most turbines begin operation once the wind speed picks up to 13 kilometers per hour
The wind turbine shuts down automatically if the wind speed passes a 90 kilometer per hour point during its operation
What can high winds possibly do to wind turbines?
More environmentally friendly
More cost efficient
More jobs are created
It is a long term investment
It's as close to perfect as it gets: From an Environmental aspect that is
Wind turbines contribute almost zero CO2 emissions
In fact the only CO2 emissions produced from this type of renewable energy are created only from the construction of turbine parts
Did you know
Wind turbines generate electricity without consuming or contaminating water, emitting greenhouse gases, air pollutants, or hazardous waste of any kind.
Cost Efficiency is Key
No hidden costs when it comes to wind power
Countries are not at the mercy of frequently changed oil prices this way
With fossil fuel power and nuclear power, people pay for the safety involved
As well as transportation
And the storage of the hazardous and toxic by-products that are what is left over
People will not have to pay to cover up the remnants of the wind turbines
It Brightens Our Future
People can take pride in wind energy
It demonstrates national stability by not having to purchase energy from other countries
It also puts many people to work through the various jobs that accompany it

System requirements are in place to help lower the noise level
Measures in Place
Living spaces are to be setback at least 300 meters from the base of the turbine
This drops the decibel level down to 40
Any decibel level over 40 is considered a health risk by the World Health Organization
