Globalization Globalization is the improvement of the world to get closer to everyone. Globalization is the increasing economic and social integration of different people and countries. [ Australian Government] There are 4 types of Globalization Global Trade Lower Business cost Multinational and International Goods Rising standards of Living Global Migration People moving to other countries Cheaper Flights and Sea Transport International Tourism People working overseas Global Culture Cultural exchange and understanding Products from many markets Global Advertising Cultural exports Global organizations i.e UN Global Communication Internet Access Cheaper faster global communication Global media networks New technologies Increased awareness of International Issues Culture Although there is no standard definition of culture, most alternatives incorporate the Boasin postulates as in the case of Bates and Plog's offering, an example would be: The system of shared beliefs, values, customs, behaviours, and artifacts that the members of society use to cope with their world and with one another, and that are transmitted from generation to generation through learning. Cultural Dilution Cultural Dilution is the blending of culture, the westernization of cultures across the world, a movement toward homogenization , a process of our lives becoming more similar. My Culture I am from Indonesia. Most of the people that has ever known about Indonesia would know that Indonesia is one of the richest countries in the world for their culture. Indonesia has alot of diffrent culture and dialects.

due to Globalization some of these culutres Indonesia has is changes. This does not necessarily mean it changes for the bad as it does not completely change. We still try our best to protects and conserve our culture. Examples on Globalization on Culture in Indonesia TNC's has modified their products to exploit the local market. An example of this would be KFC.
The only KFC in the world that sells rice as it rice dish is only in Indonesia. This is due to the fact that Rice is a staple in Indonesia. Everyone has to consume it , it is a daily routine to eat rice. Due to this factor TNC's such as KFC exploit rice so the consumers would come. Language Most of us the people in the world do not know this, but most of the Indonesian language is derived from either a dutch word or an english word. Indonesians usually have dutch in our language because they invaded us for many years. some of our cultures are also similar. The Dutch has realy influenced us alot in the past, yet i think we influenced them too. Indonesian has a certain pattern made into a cloth and it is called Batik. Due to globalization people has always thought that the batik belonged to another country. Batik is exploited to other countries and they would claim that it is theirs.
Due to that Indonesians want to reclaim the batik, so the Indonesians has started wearing batik for daily use, when it used to be only for formal wear.
This is a huge impact for Indonesia as they had to change on of their cultures. TNC's has started to 'invade' Indonesia. Everyday more than five new (kompas, 2008) TNC is opening somewhere in Indonesia. Local shops are beginning to suffer due to this.
Indonesians prefer to buy their clothing, accesories, food from TNC rather than local shops as they are more well-known and said to be "better" from their advertisement.
Some examples of TNC that are rising in Indonesia is Starbucks, McDonalds, Hagen Dazs, ZARA, Topshop etc. Tourists Tourists has brought a language to all of us. An International language, English. Most Indonesians usually speak either Bahasa Indonesia or their own dialects.
Because of the increasing number of tourists in Indonesia learning english has been more important as they need to communicate to the tourists.
This is an advantage of globalization as now Indonesia is learning a new language. Batik Conclusion Globalization has its advantages and disadvantages on its country. It makes the world more connected to each other, because of globalization we are more aware of our big surroudings not only in our own country.
