Welcome to the National Nutrition Certification Program. This course was created by the SNAP-Ed program in Utah and is provided to you for FREE! This course is designed to give nutrition educators the basic knowledge and confidence needed to be the very best nutrition educator you can be.

Our core objectives are:

Improve the education background for nutrition educators
Provide confidence to educators
Educate nutrition educators on USDA's requirements and scope of practice for those running programs funded by the USDA
Give community educators credentials to access more resources
Provide quality instruction for FNEP participants

Each participant will be given multiple attempts to score an 80% or better on each lessons' quiz. Most have 10 questions and allow 15 minutes to complete them. Many questions provide feedback and teaching as participants choose the correct answer or incorrect answer. Thus, promoting continual learning. After which they are able to proceed to the next module.

Participants are given 90 days to complete the program.

Most participants finish the certification program in 20-30 hours.
The comprehensive Post Assessment is a 100 questions in length. The participant is allowed multiple attempts and 120 minutes (2 hrs) to complete each attempt.
Certification is only valid for 3 years. At the end of 3 years, educators are allowed to *re-certify to keep the information fresh and up-to-date.
Participants must score 80% (80/100) to successfully complete the NNCP program.
After successful completion of the Post Assessment, participants will be allowed access to print a Certificate of Completion.

Is this course free?
Yes, due a grant from the USDA.
Do I need to be a student or faculty of USU to use this program?
No, the program is open to all individuals who send us the required info listed.
Do I need to travel to complete this program?
Nope, you can take it anywhere you are connected to internet.
How long does the NNCP Program take to complete?
Each participant is different and each has 90 days to complete the certification. Most, finish in approximately 20-30 hours.
How do I prove I have completed the NNCP program?
When you complete the course and pass the post-assessment, you are given a certificate. Keep this for your records.
Do I need a college degree to take this program?
No, the program is open for all.
Do I need to take the modules in order?
Yes, the material builds upon itself.
Will I be paid for the time to complete this course?
This decision is up to your State Director or Supervisor.
How long is my certification good for?
3 years. This allows you to refresh and learn more about the updated research findings.
Is Canvas friendly to mobile devices?
You can use a mobile device to view/take the class but for best results we recommend using a normal computer or laptop.
FAQ
Is there a full-time proctor for this course?
No, the program is self-sustainable but you can always email us with questions at nncp@usu.edu.
Does the Post Assessment use questions from past quizzes?
Yes. 50% of the questions are taken from previous quizzes and 50% of the questions are original to the Post Assessment.
Can I use the internet or a friend to answer quiz or assessment questions?
No. We want to see what you know and in the long run you will be better able to answer the questions of those you teach.
How often is the course updated?
As often as required due to suggestions or updated research.
Does this Certificate count as a teaching license?
No
The course is no cost to you, but you can only register once every three years.
