contract with RCA for 35,000 dollars. My grandma's, Tina Thompson, favorite song with RCA was either "Love Me Tender" or "Suspicion" March 24, 1958- Elvis is inducted into the U.S. Army and is stationed at Fort Hood for 6 months (this is him getting his famous G.I. haircut) March 20, 1960- Elvis releases his first post-army record. It got to #2 on the Billboard Charts. One single on the CD “Stuck On You” got to #1 on the Singles Chart in 3 weeks Elvis Presley is still to this day one of the most popular artists. With popularity come nicknames. Some of his nicknames included:
Elvis the Pelvis (my grandma's, Tina Thompson, favorite)
The King of Rock n' Roll October 1960- Elvis releases his album "GI Blues". It rises to #1 on the charts very quickly. It was the greatest selling Elvis album ever. My grandma's aunt owned all of the Elvis album's and this was her favorite album. Blue Hawaii was the second best selling Elvis album ever. It hit the charts at #1 and stayed there for 20 weeks. My grandma also said that her aunt took her to all of the Elvis movies. and music video showings...including this one. March 1957- Elvis buys Graceland for $102,500 Elvis' first single- sells 300,000 in the first 3 weeks. Goes to #1 on the charts quickly and stays there for 8 weeks. It also sold over 1 million total making it his very first Gold record award March 23, 1956- Elvis’ first album which quickly went to #1 on the charts for ten weeks. It was the first Elvis album to reach over $1 million in sales which got Elvis his first gold album award. May 1967-Elvis marries his lifelong love Priscilla Boileau at the Aladdin Hotel in Las Vegas. Another wedding reception was held in the trophy room at Graceland for friends that could not make it to Las Vegas on May 29, 1967 February 1, 1968- Elvis' first daughter, Lisa Marie Presley is born- this was a very happy time July 26, 1972- Elvis and Priscilla are divorced. From here on to November 1976 he choses Linda Thompson as his main companion. Elvis on Tour wins a co-Golden Globe Award as best feature documentary of 1972. June 26, 1977- Elvis' last concert was at Indianapolis, Indiana’s Market Square Arena. My grandma went to a concert just a month befor this August 16, 1977- The "King of Rock" is dead because of heart failure. It is announced by mid-afternoon. In a matter of hours the shock registers around the world. Tina Thompson said that she was always dissapointed about his drug use. August 18, 1977- Elvis' funeral is held
(this is his grave at Graceland) Thompson also said she was very suprised about his death and was sad that such a talent was gone.
