carbohydrates are organic molecules made up of the elements carbon,hydrogen, and oxygen.

Carbohydrates may be classified as a single sugars, double sugars
carbohydrates
sugars
polysaccharides
(complex carbohydrates)
monosaccharides
(single sugars) :
glucose
fructose
galactose
dissaccharides
(double sugars) :
maltose
sucrose
lactose
sugars

are sweet and Double in water.



ANYBODY KNOW WHAT IS THE DIFFERENT OF SINGLE AND DOUBLE SUGARS?
single sugars or monnosaccharides:
are small molecules. they cannot be further digested into smaller molecules
so what is that double sugars?
double sugars are
so called
because its molecule of a double sugar is made up of two molecules of single sugars bonded together
glucose found in plants and animals
fructose common in plants but rare in animals
galactose present in milk, sugar, in mammals
maltose (malt sugar) occurs in germinating grains
condensation reaction is a chemical reaction in which to simple molecules are joined together to form larger molecule with the removal of one molecule of water

hydrolysis is a reaction in wich a water molecule is needed to break up a complex molecule into smaller molecules

we can identify by iodine test

first experiment we try to identify starch in rice
from that experiments we can know in rice it has starch
how about the second experiments??
the second experiments we try to benedict's test
for the first we used watersolution and add a liitle bit benedict but the colour still blue and no reducing sugar
afterthat we used milk and its still same
anybody know what is that starch???
starch are several thousand glucose molecules joined togehter
what are the function of carbohydrates?
as a subtrate for respiration to provide energy
to form supporting structures
to synthesise lubricants
