PATRONES DE PAUSA EN LA LECTURA EN VOZ ALTA DE LOS ESTUDIANTES DE EDUCACIÓN MENCIÓN INGLES DE LA FACULTAD DE CIENCIAS DE LA EDUCACIÓN DE LA UNIVERSIDAD DE CARABOBO
1) "Pause Patterns Detection in Oral Reading "
Students will find a reading on the platform and they will read it aloud and record it by using a tool called
"chirbit"
. The recording will be embedded on the website. Through this activity, the professor/researcher will be able to compare her students' readings and determine pause patterns, which is the aim of her research.
2) "Once Upon a Karaoke "
Each student will be provided with a fable/fairytale with marked pauses. After that, they must read the story and record it. Then, they will use the tool
"CrazyTalk"
to crate a talking animal avatar and upload their recordings. Through this activity, students will be able to practice oral reading with appropriate pauses.
Purpose of the virtual platform
The virtual platform will work as a data collection resource for the previously mentioned research and will also serve as a practice environment for students that present pausing problems during oral reading.
Topic
Even though Education Majoring in English students at the University of Carabobo receive a training in pausing, it has been observed that many of them continue doing wrong pauses when reading aloud. Wrong pausing in oral reading can affect speakers' fluency and listeners' comprehension.

On the website, there will be a set of stories with their audios and texts provided. The text will be divided into information groups that will highlight at the same pace of the oral reading, just like a karaoke. This will be created by using
"KaraFun"
.
Through this activity, students will be able to practice oral reading in English by listening and repeating the pace and rhythm of the recordings of each text.
3) "Pause and Tale "
Students will write their own tales. They will mark the pauses and record themselves reading the story aloud. Then, the professor/researcher will create a
"flipsnack"
e-book with audio for simultaneous reading and listening. This activity has two functions; first, it helps students practice pausing when establishing and marking the pauses on their tales and then, reading aloud. Besides, this activity works as an example/input of appropriate pausing in oral reading for other EFL learners.
