A Plot For Freedom From Taxes And Debts
By: Phyllis, Brandon, Erina, and Kyle
In this presentation, we will be talking about Georgia. Georgia was one of the 13 colonies, and, in fact, Georgia was the last(13th) colony to develop. Georgia was founded because the founder, James Oglethorpe, wanted to create a better life for those who had been in jail and for poor people who wanted a better life rather to be put in jail.
The geography of Georgia consists of many hills and had several forests. There are and were also several areas of wet land and red-clay plains.
The weather in Georgia in the winter was mild and short, and in the summer the weather was hot and humid. The hot and humid weather was good for Georgia because this type of weather made it possible to grow crops for food..
Georgia was founded in 1732 by James Edward Oglethorpe. It was the last of the 13 colonies to develop. The colony was named after King George II. James Oglethorpe made Georgia a place for debtors who were looking to escape from England and find cheap land to live out the rest of their lives in.
Georgia's economy was based on slavery and trade. Just like other colonies, the settlers of Georgia owned slaves who worked on the land that they owned. Georgia also traded goods such as farm tools and dishes and exported crops such as corn and wheat.
James Oglethorpe wanted Georgia to be a place of freedom for debtors who were in jail. James Oglethorpe tried to create his idea of a perfect society. But the debtors weren't convinced that Georgia would give them the freedom they wanted. As a result, life in Georgia was tough. The settlers ended up having to fight off the Spanish without the help of other colonies.
In this presentation, we talked about Georgia. Georgia was founded because James Oglethorpe wanted debtors to start a new life, instead of England sending them to jail. So, debtors in England were sent to Georgia instead of being sent to jail so that they could live their new lives happily.
Many protestants, Catholics, and Jews came to Georgia to seek Religious Freedoms because, in England, they were prosecuted for practicing their religious faiths.

Georgia was self-governed. They had 21 trustees govern the colony. The end of the trustee rule was in 1752. Then, Georgia decided to elect a speaker named Francis Harris and go by a representative government.
