Transcript of Suffixes

Adding Y to end of a word changes the meaning to mean: A suffix is a word ending
added to the end of a base word. How does a suffix change a word? The suffix -y changes the meaning of a word! For example:

Cloud
A cloud is made up of tiny water droplets grouped together in the atmosphere.

Cloud + y = Cloudy
Cloudy is an adjective that describes the sky. When the suffix y is added it adds the meaning Full of... so if we add the suffix -y to the word hair, the new word would be hairy! This would mean a noun is being described as being full of hair! Suffixes What about the suffix -ly? The suffix -ly changes the meaning of
the word to mean: in a certain way.

For example:
soft + ly

soft describes how something feels

softly means to do something in a soft way Now can you explain what a suffix is and what -y and -ly do to a word? Let's practice! Suffixes –ly, -ful playful
