The French Treaty of Amity and Commerce
The French were not happy over the loss of American territory to the British after the French and Indian War. Therefore, following the American Victory in the Battle of Saratoga, the French chose to ally with America during the American Revolutionary War. The French Treaty of Amity and Commerce created an alliance between France and the United States. The treaty also recognized the United States as an independent country.

However, this time the British were forced to retreat, eventually leading to their surrender on October 17, 1777.
