Transcript of Cell City - Mr. Cattarozzle

CELL MEMBRANE
- Relates to a chain link fence because
a fence will allow certain substances to
pass through, but not everything. It is
selectively permeable.
CELL WALL
- Relates to a brick wall because
it is a rigid structure that maintains
the shape of the cell. Plant cells are
the only type of cells to have a cell
wall.
MITOCHONDRIA
- A power plant relates to the
Mitochondria because cellular
respiration occurs within this
organelle, which makes it the
power source of the cell.
ENDOPLASMIC RETICULUM
- A road is like an endoplasmic
reticulum because it is a set of tubular passageways to transport
materials to different areas of the cell -- like a road.
CYTOPLASM
- The cytoplasm is the jelly-like filler
substance of a cell. This is very similar
to grass within a city.
VACUOLE
- A vacuole is similar to a garbage dump
because it holds the waste and the extra
water for the cell. Plant cells have a larger
vacuole than animal cells.
CHLOROPLASTS
- Plant cells have a chloroplast. Within
the chloroplast is chloropyll. With the
chlorophyll, photosynthesis occurs, thus
producing the glucose (a cell's food)
needed for cellular respiration
LYSOSOMES
- only found in high end plant cells
- commonly found in animal cells
- contain enzymes for breaking down bacteria
GOLGI BODIES
- The golgi bodies is packaging material
used for transport. Mr. Roehl likes to say
it is like the bubble wrap of a cell.
RIBOSOMES
- packets of RNA and protein.
They play a huge role in protein
synthesis
Cell City
Cattarozzle's class

NUCLEOLUS
- Center part of a nucleus. It
produces ribosomes (which aid
in protein synthesis) needed for
cell division.
NUCLEUS
-Brain of the cell
-Complex functions occur
in the nucleus
-DNA replication
