Transcript of Surgeon TS16
What is my future career?
I would like to become a surgeon. More specifically, I would like to excel as a Cardiothoracic surgeon. If this doesn't work out, I would like to become a Plastic Surgeon or excel in General or Orthopedic surgery.
Which College will I attend?
I would like to attend the University of Stanford ( https://www.stanford.edu/ ). I would also like to attend Harvard University ( http://www.harvard.edu/ ). The University of Pennsylvania ( http://www.upenn.edu/ ) is also a top option.
What classes would I take?
I would take honors math and science classes in high school. Also, I would take physics, chemistry, biology, anatomy, and physiology classes.
I will need to have very steady hands because i cannot mess up considering I will be operating on mainly the heart, lungs, and other parts of the chest. I also need to be able to speak kindly to be able to make sure the patient feels safe and taken care of at all times. I will need to be alert just in case one of my patients have a problem. I will need to be able to stay awake for a very long time.
How long will it take?
I will need to take four years of college, four years of medical school, 5 year general surgery residency, and 2-3 years of specialized cardio or cardiothoracic fellowship. In the end, it will take 15 to 16 years.
My Catholic Faith
I will continue with my faith by having hope and trust in God that my patients will make it through. I will donate to charity to help those who are less fortunate. I will also try to get into pro bono (English for public good) surgeries which require no pay for the patient who cannot afford it.
My vocation is to save lives and make people happy. I understand that there will be tough times in this job but I will pray.
Since all of the colleges I would like to attend are nowhere near where my parents live, I will fly home and visit my parents. I will also go visit my siblings which will be on the path to success also.
