This first module requires us to take a step back and look at the history and founding principles that are core to the University of St. Francis student experience. Begin by taking a moment to reflect on the University of St. Francis Affirmation Prayer.

I will respect each person and their unique gifts and talents as a creation of God.
I will act with excellence, honesty and integrity in all that I do.
I will open my heart with compassion toward the needs of others in a holistic manner.
I will honor the university, further its mission of service and leadership and continue the legacy of those who have come before me.
In my actions,
I am St. Francis.
In community,
we are St. Francis.

Focus on those last two lines. What does it mean to be St. Francis? As you read about the story of the man and the history of this university, examine how he reflected the four core values of the University, and how those are represented by all those who work and attend USF. No matter your beliefs or whether you attend classes on campus or online, those values and our mission bind us together as a community.
