Class Activity 16
Molarity (mol/L or M)
1) Determine if each of the following is a physical or chemical property of matter:

a) Smell
b) Toxicity
c) Boiling Point
d) Solubility
e) Density

2) Determine if each of the following is a physical or chemical change:

a) Potassium Iodide (KI) dissolves in water
b) Silver tarnishes
c) Gasoline explodes
d) Tungsten glows in a light bulb when heated

1) How much of the compound below (grams) and water (ml) would you combine to make the following solutions?

a) 1 L of a 1 M solution of NaCl

b) 500 ml of a 2 M solution of NaCl

c) 1 L of a 2 M solution of MgCl2

d) 50 ml of a 3 M solution of MgCl2
Number of grams in a Mole
(Molar Mass)
1) Example: NaCl

2) Add the atomic mass for Na to that of Cl. (1 atom of Na plus 1 atom of Cl)

3) That is how many grams of NaCl are in 1 Mole

4) Other examples.
