Transcript of The Quantum Mechanical Model of an Atom

Date Developed
The Model
The Developers
The model was good at portraying the electron clouds. It also showed the idea that waves and particles are relatively similar.
Model Strengths
The Electron Cloud
Niels Bohr proposed that electrons were arranged in concentric orbits around the nucleus.
Erwin Schrödinger used mathematical equations to discover the likelihood of finding an electron in a certain position.
James Chadwick discovered the neutron.
The Quantum Mechanical Model of the Atom was developed between 1913 and the 1940's.
The scientists involved in creating the Quantum Mechanical Model of the Atom were:
Erwin Schrödinger
Niels Bohr
Werner Heisenberg
Wolfgang Pauli
James Chadwick
The Quantum Mechanical Model of an Atom
A picture showing the Quantum Mechanical Model of the Atom.
This is when you send an x-ray through an atom.
The light reflects off the electrons in the atom so that's where the electrons are in the atom.
A cross-section of a hydrogen atom orbital.
The electron cloud is an area where the electron could be.
It helped scientists discover many things.
Model Weakness
The model doesn't cooperate with String Theory.
String Theory
The Four Question Quiz
1. What is the range of time when the model was developed?
2. Name the first AND last names of three out of the five scientists who helped discover the model.
3. What is the model weakness?
1. How many wristbands does the guy wear on his left hand in the String Theory Song?
1: 1913-1940's
2: Erwin Schrödinger, James Chadwick, Niels Bohr, Werner Heisenberg, and Wolfgang Pauli
3: Not cooperating with String Theory
