It takes two to be in a relationship, but ultimately one to end it. It was not Jason who pushed Medea away, but Medea who drove Jason from her. Her actions and crazy state is the only primary reason Jason left.
want to be stuck in a relationship with an abusive and wildly paranoid person? Someone whom you do not even love back?
During their relationship, Medea was always unreasonably paranoid.
Medea is selfish. Her desires to stay with Jason were more important to her than Jason’s desires to be king.
“I am afraid of you- why should I dissemble it-
Afraid that you may injure my daughter morally.
Many things accumulate to support my feeling.
You are a clever woman, versed in evil arts, and are angry at having lost your husband’s love. I hear you are threatening, so they tell me,” (68, lines 282-284)
“If you were not a coward, you would not have married
Behind my back, but discussed it with me first”
(lines 586 - 587)

It is entirely Medea's fault that Jason left her.
Their "divorce" was not about gaining a higher social status; Medea solely drove Jason away.

Thus, DANGER ALERT!
If you were Jason, would you want a wife who put your life at stake every second?
Here, Medea is stubborn because she refuses to accept reality, and calls Jason a "coward”. By questioning what would happen if he did not defy her, Medea’s will to express herself reveals she is paranoid about not being able to influence and change Jason’s decision.
LOOSEN THE REINS, MEDEA
If you were Jason, would you want your actions to be watched and judged all the time?
Medea, skilled in the dark arts, is undoubtedly dangerous. She became more of a threatening force than a lover.
"Great Expectations", written by Charles Dickens, gives an excerpt on when Miss Havisham was younger. As she gives her heart to her lover, she falls too far in love to listen to her cousin, Matthew Pockets, of his warnings about her fiance. Much like Medea, Miss Havisham is blinded by love, which ultimately causes her downfall. As she grows older, Miss Havisham ends up using her adopted daughter Estella as revenge on the male population, similarly to how Medea uses her children to take revenge on Jason.
This left Medea as the only wife, but at the same time destroyed Jason’s chance to become king. Medea is so driven to try to keep Jason, that she selfishly does not care for what he wants. Shouldn't the person you love support you in what you want to do?
"There, children, take these wedding presents in your hands. Take them to the royal princess, the happy bride, and give them to her.” (91, lines 956-958)
“She is dead, only just now, the royal princess… by your poisons.” (97, lines 1125-1126)
Medea is not only a danger to Jason alone; she is also an immediate hazard to Creon and his daughter. By proving herself capable of murder, it is only natural for Jason to begin distancing himself.
The Driving Force of Love
After Gogol's father dies in "The Namesake", Gogol finds it hard to get back into the swing of his old life
-especially his relationship with Maxine. The two begin to constantly argue and Maxine blames their breakup all on Gogol. In this way, Medea and Maxine are similar. Both characters believe they are victims of exclusion in their relationships. However, they are also both oblivious to the fact that it was they themselves who drove their significant other away. If Medea was not so controlling and Maxine was not so clingy, Jason and Gogol might have stayed.

: Medea stubbornly does not try to see the situation through Jason's perspective.
: Medea chooses to be obstinate about how Jason
love her, which ultimately causes Jason to begin distancing himself and also her own misfortune.

"Ah! no, not if I had ten thousand words of shame
Could I sting you. You are naturally so brazen." (pg.105, lines 1344-1345)
audacious, forward, unabashed
: humble, timid, modest
: Medea does not show any remorse or shame in the face that she murdered her own children.
: Medea's brazen act in the murder of her own children shows the reader her ruthless mindset, one initial reason Jason feared and therefore left.
The drama focuses on the "downfall" of Jason and Medea's relationship. Thus, love is a prominent and sparking theme. Passion is one Medea's unusual traits. We all know that it was passion and love that motivated Medea to help Jason when they first met. However, passion has a darker side too- jealously, possessiveness, and the means by which love becomes hatred. All of these aspects are mainly expressed through Medea, and these are the same aspects to why Jason really leaves.
