The capital is Honolulu that is in Oahu island
It's made by 19 islands and atolls
It is 3000 kilometers of America
Is in Polynesia, Oceania, but it's part of the US FLORA AND FAUNA FLORA Purple hibiscus: is the flower of the state.
dwarf Pittosporum: is one of the most commons plants in Hawaii. FAUNA Stonefish : is one of the most poisonous fishes.
Monk seal: they were in danger of extintion in century XIX.
Turtle: is in danger of extintion. CELEBRITIES Nicole Kidman: She was born in Honolulu. She's an actress. She has won an Oscar, 3 golden globes and a Dafta Barack Obama: He was born in Honolulu in 1961.He's the first black president of USA. SPORTS The most famous sport in Hawaii is surf.
In the north coast of Oahu you can practice this sport.You can surf waves with more than 7 meters.
The most famous places to practise this sport are Silver Channel, backdoor and Walls.
The hawaiians invented surf, in hawaiian "hee nalu"
before the James Cook arrival. HISTORY The first colonization cames from the Marquesas islands.According to the tradition the first european settler was James Cook, a british sailor.On the other hand, there are evidences that proves that the spanish sailor Ruy Lopez de Villalobos discovered them in 1527.
The most famous rulers were Kamehameha and his grandson, Kalakaua.
Hawaii was declared state of the US the 21 of August of 1959 MYTHOLOGY Hawaii is full of myths and legends. They usually talk about ghosts, elves and gods. The most important gods are:
Kane: the sun, water and forest.
Kanaloa: god of death, dark and oceans.
Pele: goddess of volcanoes.
Lono: god of growth, rain, peace, sport and crops. HULA The hula , an Indian dance, is a form to tell stories.
There are two types of hula:
An Polynesian style, call Kahiko Hula.
A Hula with occidental influence, call Auana.
Hula has his own goddess too: Laka . It's usually accompanied by songs or mele. Hawaii is made by 19 islands and atolls. These are the most important islands:
