What is Colonialism? Colonialism is the control or governing influence over a dependent country or territory. What is Imperialism? Imperialism is when a country tries to extend their influence through diplomatic or military force Why did Britain take over Nigeria? -Raw Materials Minerals Food was important to Western Industrial. Traded: Tin Cotton cocoa ground nuts palm oil Britain maintained its economic leadership over colonies through military power strategic alliances ad the collaboration of indigenous rules How exactly did the British Imperialize Nigeria? The British took over Nigeria by building trade posts and selling manufactured goods as well enslaving the inhabitants there and selling them to other Imperialist countries. Where is Nigeria? Nigeria is in the west of Africa. They also took all of their valuable resources such as oil and ivory How did the British go about Colonizing/Imperializing the area? IMPERIALISM & COLONIZATION IN The British gradually extended control over the surrounding area through military force. They set up trade posts to sell their manufactured goods and killed anyone who rebelled. Some Results of Imperialism Nigeria lost most of there natural resources and they also had their language changed to English.
