Broken-Lifehouse About Lifehouse:
Jason Wade They changed their name from Blyss because some band in Europe had taken it. Lifehouse was the first name that was thrown out and they stuck with it. There was another guy that had a project called "Lifehouse", but the band cleared the name before him, so they got it. Why the name Lifehouse?? The broken clock is a comfort
it helps me sleep tonight
Maybe it can stop tomorrow
from stealing all my time

I am here still waiting
though i still have my doubts
I am damaged at best
like you've already figured out

I'm falling apart
I'm barely breathing
With a broken heart
that's still beating

In the pain
there is healing
In your name
I find meaning

So I'm holdin' on
I'm holdin' on
I'm holdin' on
I'm barely holdin' on to you

The broken locks were a warning
you got inside my head
I tried my best to be guarded
I'm an open book instead
I still see your reflection
inside of my eyes
That are looking for purpose
they're still looking for life

I'm falling apart
I'm barely breathing
with a broken heart
that's still beating

In the pain
there is healing
In your name
I find meaning So I'm holdin' on
I'm holdin' on
I'm holdin' on
I'm barely
holdin' on to you

I'm hangin' on
another day
Just to see
what you throw my way

And I'm hanging on
to the words you say
You said
that I will be OK

The broken lights on the freeway
left me here alone
I may have lost my way now
haven't forgotten my way home

I'm falling apart
I'm barely breathing
with a broken heart
that's still beating

In the pain
there is healing
In your name
I find meaning

So I'm holdin' on
I'm holdin' on
I'm holdin' on
I'm barely holdin' on to you

I'm holdin' on
I'm holdin' on
I'm holdin' on
I'm barely holdin' on to you Bryce Soderberg Ben Carey Rick Woolstenhulme Members: Significance of title: To me, the title "Broken" is talking about the essence of a broken person. Aka, someone that is depressed or has been through a major heartbreak or trial. Speaker: The song doesn't tell you the gender of the speaker, but I think that the speaker is a heartbroken man that has lost almost all hope in life. Tone: The tone is defeated and nostalgic. The speaker misses the relationship that he had before and feels depressed and defeated about it. He wishes he could go back and change decisions that he made to make his present better.
//I still see your reflection inside of my eyes//That are looking for purpose//they're still looking for life// Genre: alternative rock Originated: Los Angeles, CA
when Jason was 15 Beliefs: Christian Interpretation of song: To me, this song is about lost hope. The guy in the song had one last hope in a lover, but that hope was shattered when she wouldn't love him back. Just like some things that are broken, the love couldn't be fixed, no matter how badly he wanted it to be.

The man kept looking and searching for any signs that the woman still loved him, but found none.
//i still see my reflection//inside of your eyes//that are looking for pupose//theyre still looking for life// Theme: The theme of the song is having hope, but knowing when to let things go. The speaker kept persevering and tried to get the girl to love him even though she wouldn't. Sometimes, to get rid of the pain of losing a loved one, we need to move on and start over. Let go of today and wake up tomorrow with a new perspective. Really started getting recognized... with the release of their single in 2001 "Hanging By a Moment" He was so deeply in love and would not give up. //im holding on to you//
The song ends with him stating that he is still continuing to hold on to his feelings for the girl. He has neverending hope.

The speaker is truely lovestruck...
//the broken locks were a warning//you got inside my head//i tried my best to be guarded//but im an open book instead//
This shows how the girl really took all of his attention naturally; without even trying. Figures of Speech: Metaphor: Personification/
Metaphor: Oxymoron/
Symbolism: //and I'm hanging on//to the words you say// Obviously, we can't literally hold on to words. This is one of the things that makes this a metaphor. This is saying that the speaker is listening and not taking for granted all the words spoken to him by the woman. It shows he is nostalgic for the conversations that he used to have. //maybe it can stop tomorrow//from stealing all my time// In this use of personification, where tomorrow is going to steal all of his time, it implies a big metaphor. The metaphor is saying that he misses the past and doesn't look forward to the future because he doesn't feel that he has one. He would rather spend his time going back to yesterday instead of waking up to tomorrow. This, in turn, shows that he is depressed. //with a broken heart//that's still beating// If you take this literally, if a heart is broken, it can't possibly still be beating. That is the oxymoron. The heart can be a symbol for hope. His hope is almost lost, but he still has faith that this might possibly work out in the end.
