Generation Y
Kid Cudi Pursuit of Happiness Steve Aoki Remix What issues matter the most to Generation Y? What customs are evident? Overall, this song shows the main characteristics of Generation Y. Even though this song my not come across as meaningful, when you read the lyrics it basically captures the spirit of our generation. The song even displays how music has changed drastically from past generations, lyrics no longer have to be very deep, people want music they can dance to.

My personal attitude towards this song is I do believe that everyone should live life to the fullest but you need to have balance. I feel our generation at times loses sight of that. We need to enjoy our self's but also work hard and set priorities. What matters most to Generation Y is technology, money, love, success, acceptance, appearance, individuality, music, partying and fallowing the pleasure principle. What values of Generation Y can you determine from this song?
"I'm on the pursuit of happiness. I know everything that shines ain't always gold, I'll be fine once I get it, I'll be good"

"Crush a bit, little bit, roll it up, take a hit Feelin’ lit feelin’ light, 2 am summer night."

"People told me slow my roll I'm screaming out f*ck that Imma do just what I want lookin’ ahead no turnin’ back"

The values I can determine from this song that represent Generation Y is the motto to live life to the fullest like every day is our last. For example slang Generation Y has came up with "Y.O.L.O" And even if we know the out come of what we do may not turn out to be amazing we still want what we want because our generation is stubborn. This song also shows Generation Y is a big fan of alcohol and drugs such as marijuana, not implying every in our generation does it, but it is valued by a majority. Also, we tend to not take into consideration the consequences and feel untouchable at times. Generation Y likes to gather for social activities, celebrate with peers and they enjoy posting about themselves on social media networks. Are there any gender expectations? Generation Y gender roles are now more of a choice and based on the interest of an individual. However, there are many societies in the world which continue to stick to the traditional gender roles, western culture has developed and stress equality. The bottom line is gender roles in our society are no longer an obligation for any individual and to sustain better living, a person's free will should be the sole determinant of his or her role. What are the social norms and mores? - Freedom of choice
- Speed (Instant gratification, instant information, instant food ect..)
- To constantly be entertained
- Collaboration (Generation Y'ers don't know how to capitulate to a world of hierarchies)
