Transcript of The power of vulnerability - by Brené Brown

The power of vulnerability
Brené Brown
...is a social worker
Connection
with 10 years of experience
Shame
Fear
it's what gives purpose and meaning to our lives
...and a researcher.
Not being enough
The less you talk about, the more shame you have
we hold back
in order to connection to happen, we have to allow ourselves to be seen, really seen.
but...
she started a six-years research about how vulnerability works
vulnerable
divided the people she interviewed into
who have a sense of worthiness
who struggle for love and belonging
whole-hearted people
original definition: "to tell the story of who you are with your whole heart"
to be imperfect
to be kind with themselves first and then to the others
willing of let go who they thought they should be in order to be who they were
authenticity
compassion
courage
they fully embraced vulnerability
Our lives cannot be perfect!
Let ourselves be seen, deeply, seen, vulnerably seen.
Believe that
you can't numb those hard feelings without numbing the other affects
We don't want to be vulnerable, because often uncovering ourselves means suffering.
-
always wondering if they are good enough
Love with our whole hearts, even though there's no guarantee.
So the answer is that the way to live is with vulnerability.
