Transcript of Honesty

Information 3 strategies Honesty Honesty is the ability to seek
and uphold the truth
(180 GICM) Honesty These catholic concepts are based on the 8th commandment, which is thou shall not bear false witness against your neighbor. These concects are taken from the Primary Source Reading in Christian Morality book which we use in class. The pages used were pages 175 to 180. Catholic
Contexts Many Kinds of LIES! Media Analysis Both of these media pieces relate to the issue of dishonesty in relationships. In the video clip, we saw how you can use dishonesty in order to get advantages in relationships. In the song, we also see how the issue of lying in relationships can break people apart and cause distress. Today in society, there are many break-ups and divorces due to dishonesty. "Lies come in a variety of forms, some of them quite subtle and others quite bold.... The Catechism of the Catholic Church (CCC, 2475 ff) lists the following as offenses against truth: false witness and perjury, calumny, flaterry, boasting or bragging, and rash judgement. This demostrates that there are many ways of being
dishonest. Being untruthful doesn't just include lying but
much more than that. These things show us that our
actions and words can be hurtful toward others. The song Don't Lie by the Black Eyed Peas talks about how a man keeps lying to his girlfriend and that he knows what he's doing is wrong, but he can't seem to stop lying to her. The relationship is starting to break apart because of his lies. Although this song gives the example of dishonesty, the chorus keeps repeating, "Don't lie," so it promotes the gospel message to be honest. Truth Alone is
NOT enough Respect and Splendor
for the truth "The gift of speech can be misused,
even when we say what is true.
While we can speak the truth in love, we can also speak the truth in anger or in jealousy. We can tell the hidden faults of others to persons who have no right to know. This shows each and everyone of us that we harm others in so many different ways. We are harmful toward others when we speak poorly of them in any other situation and we unknowingly hurt them. Around the world and even seen through celebrities, we see dishonesty. When a person commits adultery against his/ her spouse, it often is unresolved and leads to divorce. When a couple gets divorced,
they often have to fight about the
custody of a child, money or property. When a child does not
want to get in trouble,
he or she often want to
lie to avoid punishment. Small lies like this may evolve into
something more if the child is not
corrected it can lead to -> cheating
on tests-> stealing goods-> murder "Character is doing the right thing when nobody's looking. There are too many people who think that the only thing that's right is to get by, and the only thing that's wrong is to get caught." ~J.C. Watts Social Consequences Recent research on lying shows that up to 60% of people lie, males doing so more than females by two to three times. People lie an average of 25 times a day, mostly to dodge trouble, make themselves look good, or to avoid discomfort to others. (http://faculty.css.edu/dswenson/web/OB/lying.html) Infidelity is the cause of one-third of the divorces in the United
States, making it one of the most common reasons for divorce.
In the first place, dishonesty is the cause of infidelity and also
is what sparks problems in relationships that can lead to
separation and divorce.
http://hubpages.com/hub/Top_5_reasons_for_divorce This episode of The Suite Life of Zack and Cody shows a man pretending to be a woman's secret admirer when it was someone else who sent her flowers. This is going against the gospel message that we should be truthful because it is telling us that it's okay to lie to get advantages in our relationships when it is wrong. Small white lies start in
school, when one is not completely honest with
their friend when he or she asks, "Do I look okay?" Most people don't see
that what they are doing is
wrong until they get caught.
Telling lies is okay unless you get
caught. But God teaches us to always
do what is right no matter what the
situation is. Respect and Splendor
for the truth is always making
an effort to tell the truth. It may
lead to consequences but at
least one would be respected for doing
what is right. Some people will not tolerate such emotional honesty in communication. They would rather defend their dishonesty on the grounds that it might hurt others. Therefore, having rationalized their phoniness into nobility, they settle for superficial relationships. ~ unknown author If one wants a genuine,
honest relationship, we must
be able to be honest with ourselves
and each other. Prayer Image Take out a piece of paper
We will list lies that are commonly said
For every lie you have told, rip a piece of your paper. Before After By: Maggie Hoang, Katrina Pasao,
Patrizia Rin & Tricia Tran The second letter of Paul was written to the Corinthians who were persons that were promised a visit from this courageous disciple of Christ. The author may have been Paul but often other believe that this was actually
written by a follower of this great disciple. This epistile contain the expression
of paul’s deep feelings toward God and how he wants to bring others closer
to God. This epistile is good to reflect on when you are feeling down and alone.
This passage should inspire you to remember that you are never alone and
even when you are literally, figuratively you always have the lord by your side
through thick and thin, like the most amazing best friend that sticks with you
no matter what happens. Dear God,
Please remind us everyday to be the best person that we can be. Also instill in us a person who does not lie and when we commint such sins like lying have the holy spirit guide us in his wise ways to help make us pure of the sins that we commit In the name of all that is good and holy. Amen. Divorce is a very big and prevalent problem that, for most of the time, goes unnoticed. Statistics show that in the US, about 49% of marriages will end in divorce. Statistics also show that divorces can lead to other major problems. Statistics:
-Divorced women with children are four times more likely
than married women to have an income that is under the poverty line
-Children who are raised in single-parent homes are less likely to marry and more likely to divorce
-Teen girls from single parent homes are twice as likely to drop out of high school or give birth to an out-of-wedlock child
