Transcript of Michael Jackson
Michael Jackson was born on August 29Th, 1958 in Gary, Indiana, to an African American household. Micheal Jackson grew up to love music. His father realized that his sons,( Michael, Tito, Jermaine, Marlon and Jackie) had musical talent, he formed them into a group, The Jackson family. Later on it was renamed The Jackson 5. They spent endless hours rehearsing their songs and cleaning their act. They recorded one single, 'Big Boy', which failed to have much interest from the public. They opened for Gladys Knight and the Pips, James Brown and Sam and Dave. These performers were signed to the label Motown. They were soon signed in 1968.
After his number 1 single, Michael and the Jackson 5 maintained a busy schedule supervised by Motown. Gordy wrote most of their songs and Michael's. The group became more popular that they had their own cartoon show from 1971 to 1973. They had many achievements and the group had great success but trouble between The Jackson 5 and their recording company started. Gordy and Joesph Jackson fought over the management of his children's careers. The Jackson's wanted more control over their recordings. After that most of the Jackson's left the label, besides Jermaine. The group signed with a new recording company called Epic Records.
IN THE 1978'S 'DESTINY' (A SONG) WAS RECORDED BY MICHAEL AND HIS BROTHERS. WORKING WITH PRODUCER QUINCY JONES Michael took the world of music by storm. his new solo record 'off the wall' featured a blend of pop and funk, with hit tracks 'don't stop 'til you get enough', 'rock with you', and 'off the wall'. he also found success in 'she's out of my life'. the great response from Michael Jackson's fans from his latest solo album also helped push the Jackson's career as well. one of their newer recordings 'triumph' in 1980 sold more than one million copies which led the boys to a very long tour to support the recording. Jackson, however began to branch out on his own, teaming up with the great legend Paul McCartney. Jackson sang on their 1982 duet which was 'the girl is mine', which almost reached the top of the pop charts.
The Jackson Five started to open for the R&B artist Gladys Knight and The Pips. They lived with Gladys Knight for a while and with the supreme's singer Diana Ross. They hit the charts in December 1969. Their first single 'I Want You Back' hit number one on the billboard top 100 in 1970. Other songs that quickly followed were 'ABC', 'The Love You Save', and 'I'll Be There'. At the age of 13, he launched his solo career in addition to The Jackson 5. He released his first album, 'Ben', in 1977.
His new song 'Thriller' (1982) was seven in the top ten hits. Jackson performed 'Billy Jean' at a special TV honoring Motown in which became a number one hit. He also debuted his soon-to-be-famous dance move, the moonwalk. Jackson also was a veteran performer at this time. He created the step and choreographed it himself. The dance sequence was featured in the video 'Beat It', which became the number 1 hit. It was also featured in the video for 'Thriller' which was on the charts for 80 weeks and was holding the number 1 spot for 37 weeks. It also had 12 Grammy nominations and it won 8 of them!
BORN AND RAISED AS A JEHOVAH'S WITNESS, JACKSON WAS SHY AND QUIET WHILE NOT PREFORMING. HE WAS NEVER TRULY COMFORTABLE WITH THE ATTENTION HE received FROM HIS FANS, AND HE RARELY GAVE OUT INTERVIEWS. HE CREATED HIS OWN fantasy PLACE- A CALIFORNIA RANCH NAMED NEVERLAND, WHICH WAS HIS OWN CREATION TO GET AWAY FROM THE REAL WORLD FOR A LITTLE WHILE. IN NEVERLAND, HE KEPT EXOTIC PETS. THERE WAS A CHIMPANZEE, NAMED BUBBLES, and had his own amusement rides. Some people may hAVE THOUGHT THAT JACKSON might HAVE BEEN EXPLORING A SECOND CHILDHOOD. In some cases, he OPENED THE RANCH FOR cHILDREN's EVENTS. MANY RUMORS SWIRLED AROUND HIM BUT MANY WERE UNREALISTIC. one rumor was that he had "sleepovers" with young boys at his ranch. he was publicly charged of wrongdoing. Jackson nearly kept his innocence.
In August of 1994, Jackson announced that he was married to Lisa Marie Presley, daughter of The Rock God, Elvis. The young couple divorced in 1996. Some people thought that the marriage was to restore Jackson's image after the "sleepover" (child molestation) incident. Later that year, he got remarried to a nurse named Debbi Rowe. The couple had two children, Prince Michael Jackson and Paris Michael Jackson (a boy and a girl). The couple soon divorced in late 1999. Michael's second devastating marriage failure. Jackson received full custody of both children, and soon had a third child, Prince Michael Jackson ll, with an unknown woman.
In 2004, Jackson was charged with more child molestation incidents, which were related with the 13 year old boy the previous year. Having 10 charges against him, (which contained inappropriate information) more than 130 people testified including Macaulay Culkin who was on Jackson's side. He said that he had been friends with Jackson since they were teenagers. He explained that when he stayed overnight at the ranch, Jackson never tried to molest him. The accuser was on a videotape, and told the court that Jackson had given him wine and molested him. on June 14Th 2005, Michael was released of all charges. His reputation was destroyed, and his finance was in trouble. thanks to legal bills, Michael no longer had a bank account, and couldn't maintain his most basic expenses. The prince of Bahrain gave Jackson the money he needed to pay the Neverland utility bills. then he invited Jackson to his country as a personal guest. in Bahrain, he gave Jackson over $7 million, and also built him a recording studio.
Jackson was supposed to begin his comeback tour on July 8Th, 2009, but he would never be able to experience the success of it. On June 25Th, 2009, Jackson suffered cardiac arrest in his LA home. He was rushed the hospital after his heart stopped and CPR attempts failed. He died later that morning. The news of Jackson's death resulted in grief from the public. Memorials were set up all around the world, especially one in Gary, Indiana, his childhood home. On July 12Th a televised memorial was held for the fans of The King of Pop at the Staples center in LA. There was a private funeral on September 3rd, for family and close friends.
