DOMA SCHMOMA
"Defense of Marriage Act"
If same-sex marriage should be illegal because it goes against the (decidedly religious) "sanctity" of marriage, is there really any separation between church and state? Can you hear me now?
The majority of Americans support same-sex marriage! Is same-sex marriage legal in other countries?
Yes! It's legal in Canada, Sweden, Norway, The Netherlands, Belgium, Spain, Portugal, Iceland, Argentina, and Mexico City! Gay marriage is legal in New Hampshire, Massachusetts, Connecticut, Iowa, Vermont, and Washington D.C. Where do the politicians stand? California State Senator Roy Ashburn
Voted against many LGBTQ rights bills, such as including sexual discrimination in anti-discrimination laws and trying to ban domestic parternships March 4, 2010
Ashburn is arrested for drunk driving after leaving a gay bar. An unidentified man was in the passenger seat. Florida State Representative Robert Allen
Anti Gay Rights
Arrested for soliciting an undercover cop in the men's room at a park
Allen insists he is innocent and was simply afraid the undercover cop was going to rob him.... U.S. Senator Larry Craig
Craig voted against granting same-sex couples equal rights and against
including sexual orientation to the definition of hate crimes, among
other anti-gay voting tendencies. Craig was arrested for soliciting an undercover cop
in (surprise, surprise) an airport restroom. Spokane Mayor Jim West West was a supporter of anti-
gay bills, including proposals to
ban gays and lesbians from
working in schools. He even
wanted to ban all unmarried
people under 18 from having
sex. West frequented gay.com, reportedly offering
internships to young gay men (who, staying true
to his beliefs, were all at least 18). Reporters created
an online relationship with West, ultimately exposing
him and his hypocritcal policies. Evangelical Pastor (not a politician but
let's throw him in here anyway) Ted Haggard Haggard was an anti-gay evangelical who
condemned homosexuality. Mike Jones, an escort and masseur claimed to have had
sex with Haggard and sold him crystal meth. Jones said
to ABC News, "I had to expose the hypocrisy. He is in the
position of influence of millions of followers, and he's
preaching against gay marriage. But behind everybody's
back [he's] doing what he's preached against." National Chairman of the Young Republicans:
Glenn Murphy Jr. Murphy was a political consultant who advocated
for "family values" and against gay marriage. Where is Glenn now? Glenn is now a registered sex offender after
being caught (for the second time) performing
oral sex on a fellow (non-consenting and sleeping) Young Republican. George Rekers A little background information on George...
George Rekers helped start one of the top anti-gay
lobyying firms in the U.S. He also wrote insightful papers
such as "Growing Up Straight: What Families Should Know About Homosexuality". He was an advisor and officer of a
homosexuality conversion group and activist against gay parents adopting. Well, George was preparing to go on a 10 day vacation through
Europe, and having recently had surgery, decided to hire a helping
hand to lift his luggage during his trip. Like anyone does when searching
for a luggage-lifter, George went to rentboy.com and found "Lucien" (whose
private profile information I will leave up to your imagination). Needless to say,
George had to resign from his many anti-gay boards after it was found that he
and Lucien had more than a working relationship. Remember Roy Ashburn? Well, here's a response to Ashburn's question used to evade reporters (“Why would that be anyone's business?”):

Sir(s), you make it everyone's business when you make it your agenda (and livelihood) to withhold rights, protections, and privileges that are guaranteed to every other American from gay and lesbian families so you can keep gay sex confined to public restrooms and seedy hotel rooms as your God intended. That is exactly what this short trip has been about, addressing the hypocrisy of individuals who are in positions to make positive changes towards equality for everyone in our society. It's time for all these people to come to terms with who they are and step out of the bathroom stall. People in positions of power in society should theoretically work to ensure equality and protection for all members of society. Unfortunately, this is not always the case. Here's a little taste of some powerful yet hypocritical members of our society. And in the U.S.? Thanks to the following websites for some great stories:

marriage is legal in only 5.... Wake up America! It's time to
make a change! For more information on DOMA and
