Transcript of Jesuit Campus Evolution

Jesuit High School was founded on September 11, 1899 as Sacred Heart College in the sacristy of St. Louis Church in Downtown Tampa. September 11, 1899 1905 - 1916 In 1905, St. Louis Church was moved to the south end of the block to make way for Sacred Heart Church. Classes were held in St. Louis Church until 1916. 1917 - 1942 The school was located in Downtown Tampa on the corner of Twiggs St. and Madison St. Sacred Heart College was renamed Tampa College in 1929. Then, in the 1939-1940 school year, Tampa College was renamed Jesuit High School in honor of the 400th anniversary of the Jesuit Order. 1943 - 1955 Jesuit High School occupied the Sacred Heart Social Center building on the corner of Twiggs St. and Marion St. Planning and construction of a separate campus begins after Fr. Kennelly, S.J. requests to purchase a plot of land on Himes Avenue. 1954 - 1956 February 12, 1956 The first day of classes on Himes Ave begins after Cardinal Stritch blesses the cornerstone. Planning and construction of the student activities center begins. The Tiger Palace is completed in 1962. 1960 - 1962 Coach Paul Straub looks on as the
Tiger Palace is under construction. 1962 - 1963 The Jesuit Residence (now the Jesuit Business Offices) was completed in the 1962 - 1963 school year. January 1, 1981 Fr. Hartnett, S.J. presides at the dedication of the
Paul Straub Baseball Field. 1988 Lights were installed on the football field at Corral Memorial Stadium, just in time for the 1988 season. 1992 Jesuit High School expands its music and art departments with the completion of the Multi-Purpose Room and Building 6. 1999 Jesuit celebrates its centennial anniversary of educating Men for Others in the Tampa Bay area with the completion of the student commons. 2003 Jesuit begins the Honoring Our Traditions Capital Campaign to upgrade multiple areas of campus including spirituality, technology and athletic complexes. Campus Evolution 1899 - 2013 2007 The Honoring Our Traditions Capital Campaign is completed with the addition of the Jesuit Memorial Bell Tower, the Fr. Kennelly, S.J. Technology Wing, the Fr. Hartnett, S.J. Classroom Wing, the A.M.D.G. Celebration Plaza and renovations to the gym and Alumni Field at Corral Memorial Stadium. 2011 2012 The Hyer Family Park is opened on February 26, 2011 for the first game of the baseball season. The Clark & Martino Football scoreboard is installed for the 2011-2012 football season. Renovations to the Jesuit Residence Chapel begin in the summer of 2012 and are expected to be completed by the fall.
