Loses sense of his morals
Portrait of the artist
"To the Virgins, to make much of time"
By Robert Herrick
GATHER ye rosebuds while ye may,
Old Time is still a-flying:
And this same flower that smiles to-day
To-morrow will be dying.
The glorious lamp of heaven, the sun,
The higher he 's a-getting,
The sooner will his race be run,
And nearer he 's to setting.
That age is best which is the first,
When youth and blood are warmer;
But being spent, the worse, and worst
Times still succeed the former.
Then be not coy, but use your time,
And while ye may, go marry:
For having lost but once your prime,
You may for ever tarry.
What holds people back from "seizing the day"?
Is it laziness, fear, or both?
(Scared of the outcome)
"Seize the Day"
We are always told to make the most of our lives yet oftentimes we simply breeze through life.
There are always things that stop us from making the most of the opportunities given to us.
Throughout the first four chapters, Stephen is restricted from enjoying his life
Religion, family, and financial stability
Struck by beauty of young girl on beach and this moment of truth made him realize that he should enjoy the beauty of things and not feel guilty.
Leads him to become an artist and live life to it's fullest without any boundaries
