but, who's really behind it all? Music Christianity was the official religion of the Roman Empire. Because of this in the Western world their was a hard development of European music. West African rhythms was introduced by the slave trade. Chants, work songs spiritual song, which all had a very hard influence on Jazz and Blues. 1860 There was a strong effort to bring rhythm and blues to the white audience but they were hesitant to embrace "black music". The term rock 'n' roll was used by Alan Freed to describe R&B music. And Elliot Carter composes his String Quarter and becomes the leading avant-grade composer of the 20th century. 1951 This is the year that Michael Jackson known as the pop icon passed. His death was very heart breaking to all of his fans. Since he was set to have a tour before he died he becomes worth more money because people went to by his records because it was of course the last one he would ever make. 2009 325 1750 Bach dies. Around the same time he dies it is known as the end period of the Baroque. The style gave a lot of attention to symphonies and string quartets. 850 Western music starts to move towards
monophony to polyphony with vocal
parts in church music that moved on
parallel intervals. 1565 As for the Italian music that way to
preserve male singing voices was castration.
St. Pauls' dictum made it so that woman were
prohibited to sing in churches and on stage.
The practice became common by 1574. 1761 Franz Joseph Haydn became Vice-kapelimeister
to the Esterhazy family and then Kapellmeister in
the year of 1766. He lived as a slave to the family but he had access to an orchestra. Within is 30 year of service he was able to complete, 47 piano sonatas, 68 string quartets, 108 symphonies, 26 operas, 4 oratorios and hundreds of smaller pieces. 1803 Beethoven made his third symphony Eröica and this piece was able to mark the beginning of the Romantic
period for music. Which took over the classical period. 1877 Thomas Edison invented
sound recording. Camille Saint-Saën's
Samson et Dalila debuts in Weimar.
