Geography and Culture

By: Hadarah Bock Geography Lakes There is only one major lake in the southeast region of the United States and that is Lake Okeechobee. It is located in Florida. Rivers The major rivers in the southeast region of the United States are the Missouri River, Ohio River, Mississippi River, Arkansas River and the Red River. Peninsulas The peninsulas of the southeast region ofthe United States are Texas and Florida. Mountains The major mountains in the southeast region of the United States are the Appalachian mountains, Guadalupe Peak, Mount Mitchell, Clingmans Dome, Mount Rogers, Brasstown Bald, Sassafras Mountainand the Reno Reservior. Culture Literature Religion The most popular religion in the southeast region in the United States is Christianity. The south has spawned many prolific writers. One of the most well-known is William Faulkner, whose work includes "As I Lay Dying". Food The foods among the southeast region of the United States are grits, biscuits and gravy, boiled peanuts, hushpuppies, and lady Baltimore cake. Drink Some of the most popular drinks we know today originated in Kentucky. (sweet tea, lemonade, Coca-Cola, Pepsi-Cola, Mountain Dew, Big Red, Crown Royal and bourbon whiskey.) Politics The Republican Party is the predominant in the southeast region of the United States.
