Maniac Magee The Theme A theme is the life lesson or moral of a story The theme of Maniac Magee is that it's what's on the inside that counts What is the theme of this book? Yes, because no matter what race, religion, beliefs, or ethinicity, we are all people and should be treated as equals. Do you consider this theme to be universal? Does the novel have multiple themes? Yes, another theme is that home is where the heart is. This theme is shown by the fact that throughout the book Jeffery experiences a variety of different homes and he is content in each one Does the theme relate to any current event? Yes, the theme relates a lot to modern day travel. For someone who travels to many different countries it's imortant to learn to not judge people by their outward appearence Why is the theme imprtant to the reader? What did you learn from it? It is important to the reader because even though segregation isn't a serious problem today, we still shouldn't judge people by their skin color. We have learned that from this book Which characters were affected by the theme? Do you think they will teach the other characters the lesson? Everyone was affected by the theme, it creates the setting of a town split in two by segregation. Throughout the book the main character, Jeffery Magee, attemps to teach the lesson to the town but, for most, it doesn't sink in.
