Kings Mountain Stephen Novak Major Patrick Ferguson Patriot Generals History Famous Quote Map of Battlefield Statistics Bibliography Major Patrick Ferguson was a Scottish officer in the British Army, an early advocate of light infantry and the designer of the Ferguson rifle. He was born in 1744 and died in 1780 at the Battle of kings Mountain The American force had a number of officers of similar rank Colonels Shelby, Campbell, McDowell, Sevier, Williams, Lacey, Cleveland, Hambright and Winston. The Battle at Kings mountain took place on the 7th of October 1780, Loyalist troops were surrounded atop the mountain by a massive amount of patriot troops. The British were slaughtered. “The length of our lives is not at our command however much the manner of them may be. If our creator enables us to act the part of honor and conduct ourselves with spirit, probity, and humanity the change to another world whether now or fifty years hence will not be for the worse.”
