Transcript of Energy Saving Project

Global Warming One way that we can
prevent, or at least slow
down, Global Warming is by reducing green house gas emissions. Electrical energy is made by burning coal in electrical power plants. Burning coal gives off CO2 which is a green house gas. On average, to produce one kilo-watt hour of power puts 1.37 pounds of CO2 into the atmosphere. Instead of leaving your computer tower and LCD monitor on 24/7, if you used it for two hours a day and slept it for 22 hours a day you would only use 185.42 kwh. To make this much electricity would put 254.03 lbs of CO2 into the atmosphere. So, each year you would prevent 1606.17 lbs of CO2 from going into the atmosphere. If you used your laptop for two hours a day and slept it for 22 hours a day, you would use 40.88 kwh per year. To make this much electricity would put 56 lbs of CO2 into the atmosphere. If you used your laptop 24/7, then each year you would use 410.63 kwh per year. To make this much electricity would put 562.7 lbs of CO2 into the atmosphere. So, each year you would prevent 506 lbs of CO2 from going into the atmosphere. Right now there are over 1,000,000,000 computers in the world. If everyone used reasonable power settings we could automaticlly save about 1,606,179,000,000 lbs of CO2 from going into the atmosphere. One common electrical device in most homes is the computer. If you leave your computer tower and LCD monitor on 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, you would use 1357.8 kwh per year. Producing this much electricity would give off 1860.2 lbs of CO2 into the atmosphere. Sources
