Job dissatisfaction and stress causes nurse burn-out. Admitting patients can often time consuming and fragmented. The admission process also takes the time away from nurses that should be used to review patient orders and needs. Admission nurses would take away this unnecessary workload and documentation.
Patient safety & satisfaction:
When nurses are stressed, patients do not receive the quality care that they need. Patient needs and acuity can be over-looked due to lengthened admission process times.
Admission data is the root for which nurses develop and refine care plans and diagnoses. Maintaining a patient's health while completing an admission and interacting with families and physicians can be stressful and overwhelming.
Admissions can take one to two hours to complete. Having an admission nurse can give this time back to staff nurses. The main goals of having an admission nurse are to decrease the workload and stress of the staff nurses and increasing patient safety and satisfaction.

According to Nightingale, poor or difficult environments can lead to poor health or disease. Patients need to be put in the best conditions for nature to act on them, leaving the duty to nurses to alleviate stress, anxiety, and chaos.
The Expectancy Change Theory
The expectancy theory employs nurses to achieve an outcome based on motivational factors. This theory implies that individuals are more motivated to act when they are shown something desirable.
- Decreased stress and workload for nurses

- Clearly delineate roles
- Provide positive support
The use of surveys would be the most efficient way of evaluating patient satisfaction.
Surveys would also be useful for staff.

The manager can track overtime use and unit costs during this process.

- 1 hour allotted per admission assessment
